preform corrective orthoses
Back to: Index >>

Ideal for practitioners who want to treat patients quickly and effectively with a functionally corrective orthoses without having to spend the time, effort and money of manufacturing a custom made device. The range is unique as it offers 3 different arch heights and is available in either Flex (polypropylene) or Soft (polyurethane) designs. The innovative Interpod Flex is the closest alternative to a custom made device.

3 Different Arch Heights

Clinical experience shows the majority of patients requiring orthoses respond positively to one of three orthotic heights reflected in the Interpod orthotic range: Low (4°), Moderate (6°) and High (8°). The correct orthotic height is a practical issue of shoe fit and comfort, combined with the necessity for symptom relief.

Interpod recommends the initial use of the Moderate (6°) height orthotic, providing shoe fit permits. If symptoms persist and the moderate height has been ‘comfortable’ then the use of the High arch is indicated. The Low arch is used if the Moderate is uncomfortable or when shoe fit is difficult.

Plantar Fascial Groove & Rear Foot Wedge

Orthoses with a rear foot wedge have been shown to improve the windlass mechanism* by 30%. Orthoses with a plantar fascial groove and a rear foot wedge improve the windlass mechanism by up to 60%.

Research Results LaTrobe University Australia 2003

plantar fascia groove + rear foot wedge = enhanced windlass mechanism

"Prefabricated foot orthoses made by Interpod have been shown to improve foot malalignment. Not all commonly used prefabricated devices have been shown to change the foot alignment"

(Craig Payne 2002, La Trobe University)

*The windlass mechanism occurs as the hallux is dorsiflexed at the 1st Mtpj joint. The plantar fascia winds around the drum of the 1st metatarsal head, which tightens the plantar fascia and raises the arch. This makes the foot more stable during propulsion.
